Every weekend between 10 a.m. until midnight, the Foxwoods Casino in Mashantucket will reserve one of its five floors, its Rainmaker Casino, for guests that are 55 or older, born in 1965 or earlier. The facility is test-running the concept throughout November.
“The safety of our loyal patrons has been our number one priority since reopening, and we are excited to offer them this exclusive experience where they can relax and play in a safe, frequently sanitized environment,” said Jason Guyot, Foxwoods’ interim CEO and SVP of resort operations.
Along with enforcing social distancing protocols among customers and frequently sanitizing the floor, the casino will cater to this age group by playing 80's hits between 8 p.m. and midnight and providing complimentary cocktails with Boone's Farm, a nostalgic flavored wine.
Foxwoods closed their resort on March 16 due to the onset of the pandemic, then reopened on June 1.
While restaurants and entertainment must close at 9:30 p.m. per Governor Ned Lamont's COVID-19 Phase 2.1 protocols, Foxwoods is located on the tribal lands of the Mashantucket Pequot and is therefore exempt.
While the establishment fared well during their initial reopening, only losing 4.9 percent of profits compared to June of 2019 with gross gaming revenue of $33.6 million on slot machines in June of 2020, the casino reported that slot revenue has since declined steeply, making 20 percent less in August of 2020 than August of the previous year with a slot-machine haul of $27.6 million.
